The perfect summer bases.

13 July 2014

As summer has finally decided to arrive in the UK here are a few of my favourite light weight bases. My check list for a good summer base are a) long lasting b) SPF c)  lightweight and d) good coverage.

Here are 2 bases that match the above criteria, yet they still manage to be very different products. The Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB Moisture Makeup is one that I have reviewed before. It offers more coverage than your average BB cream, whilst still being super light on the skin. Like the rest of the double wear line it offers great staying power and with SPF 30 its perfect for the summer. I have the shade 1.0 which is the lightest which is a perfect porcelain colour for pale gals but I might need to invest in another shade for summer. Added bonuses with this one are oil free, fragrance free, vitamin E and C anti-oxidant protection and its non-acnegenic so won't contribute to any skin problems.

The Jouer Matte Moisture Tint is a whole different product. It's a tinted matte moisturiser for one, which is a rarity. Tinted moisturisers are normally more on the dewy, glowy end of the spectrum, but this offering from Jouer is perfect for oily skins in the summer. I have the lightest shade porcelain, which is a bit on the orange side but once I'm on holiday with a bit of a tan it should be fine. Added benefits of this one are oil free again, SPF 15 and vitamin A, C & E to protect and hydrate the skin. This one definitely isn't for those with dry skin as it has a tendency to cling to drier patches.

As you can see considering both of these are the lightest shades in their respective ranges the colours vary a lot. On the left is the Estee Lauder Double Wear BB (1.0) and on the right is the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint (porcelain).

Just to compare to another product, on the right is the Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser in Porcelain, again one of the lightest shades in the line and this falls somewhere in between the 2 products mentioned above. This is a shade that is much better for me in the summer months so I am hoping that I can find the Estee Lauder Double Wear All-Day Glow BB in a similar shade.

The reason the Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser didn't make the cut for me as the perfect summer base is because it just doesn't seem to last very long on my skin. It goes greasy quite quickly in the heat no matter what primer/powder I use and the coverage just isn't as good. Which is a shame as it is the perfect shade.

What's your favourite summer base?
